Hunger Strike of Cartoonist Aseem Trivedi and Alok Dixit Ended in the presence of Arvind Kejriwal




Protesting against the IT Act Section 66A from 8th December, Cartoonist and member of ‘Save your Voice’ campaign Aseem Trivedi and activist Alok Dixit have finally renounced their indefinite hunger strike today. The founder of ‘Aam Aadmi Party’, Arvind Kejriwal was also present at this juncture.
On Friday, the two protestors along with all their supporters demanded to discuss the act with IT Minister, Kapil Sibbal. But they were pre-empted and thumped by the police. This worsen the health of the protestors and as per the advice of the doctors, Aseem Trivedi and Alok Dixit, finally decided to quit their hunger strike.
Today, Arvind Kejriwal while supporting Aseem Trivedi and Alok Dixit, announced that the IT Act Section 66A should be declared unconstitutional. He said that they will keep protesting against it and start a campaign against it and involve many other common people from different states and regions. He also blamed the police for their inhuman actions towards Aseem Trivedi and Alok Dixit and alleged government for not handling the issue accurately.
Aseem trivedi said that the ‘fight for the right’ has not ended here instead he assured to continue protesting against the act as it restricts the ‘freedom of speech’ of the people. He announced a campaign which will encourage people to be a part of this protest to make India a real ‘Democratic’ country. He said that to make our voice audible to this government, they will make greater strategies and involve bloggers and internet users to work with them. He was also disappointed with the conduct of the police, towards them after 7 days long hunger strike, when they went to discuss the issue with Kapil Sibbal.
The activist, Alok Dixit also declared that they will not give up until and unless the decision is taken in the favour of the common people. And for this, they will come up with bigger and better campaign strategies and members.
